'Forget it mate - it's not the 80s'
The lyrics are hilarious in this "send-up". I can't wait to see the movie. Dame Judy Dench is Fuuurious.
Haunting Art
Beth Gibbons - a voice that could drive a man to sweet madness in a break from her Portishead "day job". Very nice.
Papal Infallibility
Pope warns crowd that spiritual emptiness often accompanies material wealth. He then adjusted his silk robes, waved his golden sceptre and was driven off to his private Lear.

Poll: most Britons doubt cause of climate change
Again, I'm not arguing that we should not be more "green friendly" but the continuing politics (not science/politics) that is driving this argument, is going too far.
Folks - let's do it, but let's do it for the right reasons and an even mind. We do not need to look far back in History to see what kind of extreme measures Politicians can push through off the back of faulty intelligence.

Polystyrene on Jupiter?
So they have stopped providing free polystyrene cups for me to drink my coffee out of at work (the coffee is still free and is a great "perk"). Anyway, no problem. Polystyrene cups are cheap to buy and it is easy to bring in ones own mug to drink the sweet, oh so sweet, bitter black nectar from. To follow up though we got an email saying that we can save on using a football fields worth of polystyrene cups by doing this.
Here we go again. This time political views being shoved at me at work. Yes I say political. The Green debate, which I do beleive is valid, is unfortunaley outside of the hands of independant researchers and now vested in politics. Where there is politics there is money and therefore Scientists willing to "prove" any point they are paid to prove.
Again - the climate on this planet is changing. It always has done and it always will. Unless you have a spare Earth where you can show me that the climate is "getting better" through people not drinking their coffee in polysterene cups then we need to settle at "well there's something to think about there".
Interesting to note that there is a third "red spot" on Jupiter appearing through climate change.
And people - wherever you stand on these green issues and how it is predicted to kill of x number of whatever species over the next y years, try this. Go to a search engine of your choice and type in something like "death toll in Rwanda", read for a while, and then come back to me with a renewed perspective of where your thoughts should be.

GCC (Global Climate Change) - Reprised
This is really starting to bug me. Those who know me in person would struggle to mention an instance of when I speak about GCC, if it's happening and the causes thereof. It's not usually one of my red button items.
The whole argument is moving away from data (what is the climate doing, what was it doing previously to us mucking about) into politics. I read about the while thing for a while and concluded that it's inconcludable but fuelled by politics.
As I've posted mainly on the "this whole thing's a load of rubbish side" I must, contrary to my gut, post for the opposite argument.
Her name was Rose
When scared, we search for our parents. When alone, we look to our spouse. When angry, we seek an army. When all of that is lost, we need a Doctor.
The Doctor needs Rose.
Car Bombs?
Terrorists? Insurgents? Freedom Fighters?
Gentlemen, you are picking on the wrong country if you are looking for people to be affraid.
Not much more than 50 years ago, 80 and 90 year old men picked up their old rifles and bayonets, stood on the shores of Dover and waited for whatever the Germans/Italians/Japanese had to bring. Greatly outnumbered airmen got out of their destroyed planes and simply climbed in the next Spitfire.
The Catholic Irish tried to bring fear in the 80s (did a lot better job than these current clowns).
Did it work? Has any of this worked?
Whatever happens. Whatever will/force/army or whatever decides to try. There will always be one soggy little island waiting for it.
Turn your speakers on
Paul Potts
I can provide no fitting introduction, just please turn on your speakers and watch. I give you Mr. Paul Potts....
Disturbing
Very little really gets to me. I can watch horror movies all day long. I can hear of terrorost beheadings and whilst being uncomfortable can usually find some sort of logic or meaning and accept that bad things happen.
But what if your loved one suddenly, in this case, is writhing around in pain and vomiting blood. What do you do? Of course you get this person to a hospital as fast as possible.
What if when you get there you are ignored.
In panic you call 911 and they ignore you. A bystander in the hospital sees the gravity of the situation and also calls 911. You can listen to the 911 response here.

This one makes me ashamed to be of European descent...
And I quote "Google cookies are set to expire after 30 years but this could be cut down to just two in the face of European Union criticism."
I know I for one have been concerned about the 29 year old cookie sitting on my computer. I only take the time to delete mine every ten years so this is great!!!!!
I would also like to link to this one to further laugh at Al Gore and the band of GlobalWarmingologists.....
Spork
My brain started hurting today. We all know the concept of a "spork", but try imagining what a "spife" would look like. Think about it. It starts to hurt........
While you're dwelling over that think about a combination of a spatula and a spoon. It comes out as a "spatula"...but that's the same word!!!!!
Conspiracy Theories
Let me start by saying...I'm a big fan. The moon landing, JFK etc. All good stuff. Partly because there's something there, and partly because it's fun to tease other "Conpiracy Theory Questioners". While I have no interest in the views of Rosie O'Donell, I couldn't help but note this speech she gave whilst "warming up" an audience.
Apart from the rudeness she shows to the woman employed to do her make-up, I pray that if ever I go this far in my madness that someone, anyone, would take me a side and shout at my face.

Live Earth Concert......
The likes of Madonna and Red Hot Chili Peppers will perform at Live Earth at Wembley Stadium on July 7, to promote awareness about the effects of CO2. The urge, as always is to get us all to live "greener" lives to save the planet etc.
Madonna's Confessions tour produced 440 tonnes of CO2 in four months of last year. And that was just the flights between the countries, not taking into account the truckloads of equipment needed, the power to stage such a show and the transport of all the thousands of fans getting to the gigs.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers produced 220 tonnes of CO2 with their private jet alone over six months on their last world tour which was 42 dates.
The average a British person produces is 10 tonnes a year.
This website was never intended to be an arguement about "Climate change" and to that end, I will write no further on the subject. I actually agree and am concerned about what the "fat west" is doing, but our focus needs to be in the right place. I get the impression that many people feel the same but make uneducated jumps about what needs to be done.
As I said, I will rant no more.

Netflix Recommendation
I sometimes find it fun to look through the recommendations Netflix gives me due to my viewing history/grading. One can usually spot why they suggest certain titles (same actor/genre/director etc.)
This one has me beat.

UK (C4) Documentary The Great Global Warming Swindle
I used to agree with the whole thing. Humans are causing the end of the world with our thirst for more. It just fit nicely into my brain....the fat cat businessmen burning up a bunch of coal for profit, the idiot in the SUV next to me, heck they've even banned certain types of inhalers Asthma users depend upon.
All seemed to fit quite nicely and gave us all something to get angry about.
Now I'm not saying that pollution is a good thing. I think we should all strive not to be needlessly wasteful. Those of us lucky enough to live in the developed world NEED to take stock at least. But to suggest that we are causing an apocalypse is like telling an Aardavrk to stop kicking a mountain because it might fall over.
This planet was here long before we were. It's climate changed many times without us. It's climate has changed many times while we have been here, and it will change many times after the last memory of a Human Being has blown away in the wind.

Al Gore.....
Last night, Al Gore’s global-warming documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, collected an Oscar for best documentary feature, but the Tennessee Center for Policy Research has found that Gore deserves a gold statue for hypocrisy.
Gore’s mansion, [20-room, eight-bathroom] located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).
In his documentary, the former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home.
The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average.
Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359.
Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore’s energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006.
Gore’s extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore’s mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year.
“As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore has to be willing to walk to walk, not just talk the talk, when it comes to home energy use,” said Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson.
In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006.

I love technology!
I know a lot of people find this kind of stuff boring, but to me - any new technological advance, no matter how small, nudges mankind that "evolutionary inch". I saw the following link recently and was blown away at the innovation.

Intelligent Falling
I would like to add my voice to the growing number of fellow Evangelical Scientists who would like to see "Intelligent Design" added to our children's science class curriculum. Not to
have it stated as "The Truth", just as another view on the age old question of why we are here. Evolution is NOT the only answer.
I also would not like it to stop there. There are many more "laws" and "rules" that are taught as fact in Science class that quite frankly have never been ultimately proved.
Take the "law" or "theory" of gravity. Yes, we see that big objects attract little objects, but even Newton and Einstein cannot say why.
To this end, I promote the growing theory of "Intelligent falling", and proclaim that it should be added to our School systems curriculum. Obviously not as "fact", just a different way of looking at the world.
A Sorta Fairytale
and i'm so sad
Renting a movie...
For me it all started out with the local supermarket keeping 30 titles on a shelf first behind the counter, and then towards the magazine aisle.
My experiences progressed to Blockbuster blockbuster.com and trying to time my entrance to the store to coincide with a good VHS release before the guy next to me could grab it. If I was lucky, I would get to see and return it before having to take out a bank loan to cover the late fees.
What's this? No late fees at Blockbuster? Shelves full of DVDs ready for my eager little eyes? Ah…Bliss.
And then Netflix netflix.com came along and made me look stupid. I don't need to get up off my fat posterior and travel to Blockbuster, oh no, I can just move my mouse-controlling hand around for a few minutes and have that nice man in shorts (I think he always wears shorts....can't remember him in winter) deliver the darn thing right into my mailbox. WOW!!!!!
Now I can have any episode of 24 Series 3 delivered to my mailbox with only a day or two delay. I wonder what situation Kim got herself into in this episode? Gosh Kim, you are in a pickle.
But wait!! What's this?? Some dork on TV from Vongo www.vongo.com is letting me know how behind-the-times I am again. Why not download the sucker RIGHT NOW and watch it before my beddytimes.
I can't handle it. I am not this fast moving.
I fear that in a few months I will have the first five minutes of any movie beamed directly into a frontal lobe leaving me the option of inserting or waving my credit card or fingerprint wielding digit in front of my TV.

Dangerous Words
I think it's very dangerous to pass on "words of wisdom" to people without understanding the full situation. I'm sure we've all been at the receiving end of such knowledge and have occasionally found the sentiments helpful and/or consoling.
However, take the example of 'time heals all wounds'. Would you say this to someone who had just had their arm bitten off by a Kodiak bear?
A more accurate phrase would therefore be 'time heals some wounds', but again, would you say this revised version to the guy with the bear? Just be careful what you say.
